Bongiwe Walaza, a renowned South African clothes designer, grew up the daughter of a home dressmaker, learning to make clothes from her mother's fabrics.
She began designing and making dresses for herself and, subsequent to her studies in Electrical Engineering, she enrolled at Natal Technikon to learn more about dressmaking and design.
Bongiwe has regularly worked closely with Da Gama Textiles, helping popularise the only truly ethnic South African fabric, The Original Shweshwe, on the catwalk.
