Da Gama Textiles: SA’s oldest & largest textile manufacturer

An For over 75 years, Da Gama Textiles has been at the forefront of the South African textile manufacturing industry, producing a wide range of premium fabrics. Today, we are South Africa’s oldest and largest vertically-integrated textile manufacture, producing niche branded fabrics – including the internationally-recognised Three Cats Original Shweshwe – alongside a variety of home, furnishing, traditional, workwear and medical fabrics.

Da Gama Textiles was established in 1946 as The Good Hope Textile Corporation, a spinner, weaver, dyer, printer and finisher of cotton-based textiles. Since our very first year, our fabrics have been in high demand, due to our unique print designs and broad selection of base fabric options.

With diverse in-house printing capabilities, we produce collections and ranges boasting stunning designs, patterns and colourways, bringing a touch of style to any textile project. In March 2022, we further diversified our offering to include a specialised range of technical textiles, manufactured for use in protective and industrial environments.

Our staff of 500+ are almost all employed from Zwelitsha, which surrounds our Eastern Cape Factory, providing one of the largest sources of employment in the area. Our vertical manufacturing capabilities allow us to process up to 15 million machine metres each month, making us the largest textile mill in South Africa.
